jacobs-13788-bk
Florence Jacobs - Unique album: Herbarium and Record of Analysis - 1921

A beautiful collection of dried flowering plants on pages tied into a hard cover with an illustrated four page text "A key to the Record of Plant Analysis" . The cover was designed by C. S. Jackson and it was published by Rumford Supply Co. in Lynn, Mass. Inside is a few pages on the Key to Record of Plant Analysis, copyrighted 1906 by C. S. Jackson. It lists information on the parts of the plants such as: Root, Stem, Leaves, Flowers, Stamens etc. The rest is 25 papers of dried flowers with ghost nature prints on opposite pages from the plants themselves. The flower specimen is taped into one side of the page and a description is handwritten on the opposite side. These are all loose pages of 25 plants, they sit in the hardcover and then it is tied shut with strings on three sides. This work was done by Florence F. Jacobs in 1921 as she wrote her name at the top along with B. H. S. '21. Maybe a high school project? Florence was born about 1905, the daughter of Samuel and Sallie (Fry) Jacobs. In the 1920 and 1930 census records the family was living in Robeson Twp., Berks County, which leads me to believe that Florence attended Birdsboro High School, which would be the initials B. H. S. that she wrote on the cover of the book. Florence married Joseph Zeiders and taught school at Caernarvon Elementary School in Morgantown for many years. She passed away in 1979. There is wear on the cover, some rough edges and corners and some marks. The tie strings are still there and do tie the pages securely.
