Arthur Mowbray Jones - Varieties of the British species of ferns (nature printed) - 1876-1880

22 examples of fern nature prints by Col. A.M.Jones Provenance Col. Jones issued 6 series of nature prints between 1876 and 1880, around 300 prints in all. The number of prints sent to each subscriber varied slightly, extra examples being sent to subscribers who had provided him with specimens. He produced around 40 sets of prints, but in addition to the examples issued, there were many others which did not make the final distribution. Prints were sent to subscribers unlabelled, but with a pencilled number below the image. Col Jones’ surplus prints were presented to the British Pteridological Society by the colonel’s daughter and are still with the BPS. A small number of prints were given to interested parties, in the 1960s and these prints are from a set of 39 prints, purchased by Michael Hayward from the estate of the owner. They are mostly prints which were unissued but a few are duplicates of issued prints.
